On June 7, 2014, Petro Poroshenko becomes the President of Ukraine

He comes to power on a wave of great popular hopes and, at the same time, under conditions of constant separatist sabotage and de facto paralysis of state power, and his election promises to “stop the war” meet the expectations of citizens. Ukrainians choose Poroshenko under the influence of traditional mental conservatism and fear of the unpredictable future.

The new president begins his reign with numerous reforms. To confirm this, foreign experts from Poland, Lithuania, Georgia and the United States are invited to the government positions, who are to become the face and agents of change. The country starts decentralization and reforms of the police and medicine.

Under Poroshenko, a belated but historically necessary decommunization is underway, in which entire cities and regional centers are being renamed. Finally, the names dedicated to communist criminals disappear from Ukrainian streets.

Authorities start to “Ukrainianize” the information space and set language quotas at 75% of the Ukrainian language on TV and radio.
