Battle of Ilovaisk
In August 2014, one of the worst battles for the Ukrainian army in the war in Donbass unfolds NEAR the city of Ilovaisk.
The fighting lasts almost a month from 6 to 29 August and receives the name of “The Ilovaisk Cauldron.” The beginning of the Ilovaisk operation is considered to be August 10, 2014. The Ukrainian army loses 366 soldiers, 429 – receive wounds of varying severity, 300 – are taken prisoner.
Since March 2014, hostilities in eastern Ukraine are not stopped. Hybrid groups of the Russian army are trying to establish their regime in the occupied territories in Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
As a result of a fatal series of events, most of the Ukrainian military is surrounded after the third assault on the city.
After, at first glance, successful negotiations, they agree with the Russian side to create a green corridor to withdraw Ukrainian fighters from the encirclement and prevent massacres.
But during the withdrawal, the Russian military insidiously opens fire on the columns in the green corridor and shoots them close with artillery.
Ilovaisk becomes the starting point or border, after which the anti-terrorist operation ends and the war begins.
